About Villa La Colonnata
Villa La Colonnata is an imposing building, dating back to 1741, that sits high in the hills, imperiously gazing down on Positano. The town that prostrates itself at the villa’s foundation stone is widely considered to be the most beautiful on the Amalfi Coast, with its colourful houses seeming to cling vertically to the sheer cliff face as it plunges down to the sea. The villa enjoys dizzying views over the town and up to islands of Li Galli.
This historic Amalfi Coast villa was commissioned by a rich 18th century merchant to show off his wealth and establish his family in society. The grandeur of the villa’s past has been preserved, with traditional Italian interiors, tiled floors and frescoes. Traditional paintings and antique furniture combine with every possible modern amenity to create a space that is both elegant and comfortable.
The property has numerous terraces and a sizable garden, but its most notable feature is the colonnade that gives it its name. This has been depicted in many 18th century Neapolitan paintings, found in museums all over the world. Sitting here, it’s easy to understand why.
The town of Positano offers glittering blue sea, unique shops and art galleries. Awaiting beneath you are restaurants to suit every palate and bars that stay open long into the night.
At Villa La Colonnata you can enjoy a sense of history without having to sacrifice modern comforts. You’ll get a real taste of aristocratic life in 18th century Italy. And you’re sure to find it delicious.
