About Santorini
Santorini’s unique landscape was formed during an ancient volcanic eruption. Believed by some to be the legendary lost city of Atlantis, the ancient Minoan site of Akrotiki is Santorini’s most striking historical site. Encased in rock, the city offers some excellently preserved mosaics and Minoan artifacts.
These days, Santorini has become known as one of Greece’s most heavenly summer destinations. The volcanic caldera is home to astounding landscapes rich with cliff top towns, excellent wines, fine art, culture, history and hiking. Lace up those boots and enjoy the views from the peaks. Many of our luxury Santorini villas are perched directly on mountainsides, offering some the best high altitude views you’ll find anywhere in the Cyclades.
Of course, while you’re here, be sure to try some of the superb results of Santorini’s viticulture: there’s a centuries old tradition of wine production here. Let us arrange a local expert to bring a selection directly to your villa, where you can sample them on the patio beside your pool. Alternatively, you can delight your palate with a tipple on board an Aegean cruise. As you gaze across the crystal clear waters with the sun illuminating the sapphire sky, you’ll find it hard to believe this was once a place of fire and brimstone.

Tipping
Like most European countries, tipping in restaurants is common, with a recommended 10% on a discretionary basis according to service. Check that a service charge has not been added to your bill before deciding whether to tip. Taxi drivers do not usually expect a tip but it is common practice and considered polite to round up taxi fares.
Black sand beaches
The majority of the beaches in Santorini have black sand (with the exception of one red sand and one white sand beach). Black sand can get very hot during the summer months and you are always advised to wear flip flops or footwear of some sort when walking on the sand.
