About Villa Astor
Villa Astor is an extraordinary Neoclassical residence clinging to the cliffs of the Sorrentine Peninsula. Overlooking the bays of both Marina Grande and Marina Piccola, it boasts a garden rated one of the ten most beautiful in Italy.
Surrounded by the ruins of an imperial villa, the interior and grounds of this stately building celebrate the beauty of ancient art. The villa and its estate are home to over 150 pieces of museum-worthy historical pieces, given special protection by Italy’s Ministry of Culture. As you sit in the idyllic garden it’s hard not to be awed by the history of the site, and the thought that Emperor Augustus’ grandson most likely once sat there too.
Underneath the villa lies a magical internal pool in a natural grotto with direct access to the sea. This too dates back to Roman times. There’s also a private swimming pool set within the fragrant garden.
The villa was once home to Sir Waldorf Astor, and has been fully restored by the French decorator Jacques Garcia. Six lavish bedrooms are decorated in the classical style, with en suite bathrooms covered in the most exquisite marbles and granites.
Villa Astor will give you a real taste of the sumptuous opulence of the ancient world. And, despite its quiet seclusion, Sorrento’s lively town centre is only a five-minute walk away. So, there’s plenty of modern pleasures to be enjoyed too.
