About Villa Destiny
This stretch of the Algarve is all about the dramatic coastline, the red-tinged sandstone cliffs and sea stacks, the caves carved out by the waves. The small town of Carvoeiro isn’t off the beaten track, but stand by the swimming pool here looking out across the Atlantic and it can feel like being on the edge of the world. Inspired by the owners’ own travels, this is a villa for the globally curious. Its gleaming white architecture, all clean-cut geometrics around a central dome, would feel at home in the Greek Cyclades or Morocco. Inside, rooms are furnished with artworks, books, fabrics and eye-catching objects collected from adventures around Asia, Africa and the rest of the world – though it retains a real sense of Portugal throughout with antique furniture, colourful hand-painted tiles and locally crafted basketware. Most of the six bedrooms lead onto patios or the garden, and there are plenty of open-air living rooms and hidden spots to tuck yourself away in, with day beds for lounging.
Among the pine trees by the cliff is a safari-style tent with a well-designed gym and space for massages; spa treatments can be arranged.
It’s a lovely villa for family gatherings, with two live-in caretakers and a private chef looking after your grocery shopping, breakfasts and dinners.
As well as the swimming pool, there’s a tennis court amid the trees, while Carvoeiro and its cafes are just a walk away, as is the beach. And out to sea, if you keep watch long enough, the sleek acrobatics of dolphins in the waves.
