About Henry’s Townhouse
Named after Jane Austen’s brother, who once called this address his own, Henry’s Townhouse is a gorgeous Georgian gateway to the capital. Tucked into a row of residences, it’s a private, playful place where the design is smarter than an Elizabeth Bennett quip.
Henry Austen lived in this property in the 18th century, and his rather more famous sister Jane stayed many times. In 2022, husband and wife duo Steve and Jane Collins teamed up with interiors expert Russell Sage, who brought his signature, period-sensitive maximalism to transform the Georgian townhouse. The design is rich with Regency-era embellishment and internationally sourced antiques straight out of Bridgerton. Gloves are provided for perusing illustrated first editions kept in protective glass, but this is no museum. It’s a warm, welcoming house with quirks and character in every corner, from the six bedrooms named after members of the Austen family and decadently decked out with king-size four-poster beds and rolltop bathtubs, to the three snug ‘parlors’ (our favorite is the one inspired by a railway carriage) with squishy sofas where afternoon tea can be served on a whim. An enormous 14-seat refectory table in the pantry is big enough for breakfast and broadsheets in the morning or celebratory dinners after dark, and a private chef is available to whip up a menu of fresh British produce.
A five-minute walk from Hyde Park, Henry’s Townhouse also has some of West London’s finest restaurants, bars, music venues, theatres, shops and tourist attractions on its doorstep. Your A&K team can design a culture-packed itinerary for your immersion in the capital, and your housekeeper can make reservations and recommendations throughout your stay from booking tickets at the theatre where Austen drew inspiration for Sense and Sensibility, to arranging access to Nobu Hotel’s private gym on Portman Square.
